What do you want? - Alignment matters when you're selling

Jun 20, 2022

The three pillars of successful selling, the Heart to Heart Sales™ way are alignment, connection and preparation.

Here’s one reason why alignment is top of the list:

What are your goals for your business future? What do you want to achieve in 3 years, or 3 months, or 10 years?  What are your great big goals?

These goals, these aspirations, are what keep us moving forwards in our business, even when times are tough. (and, by the way, sometimes building a business can be a bit of a slog sometimes, that’s not talked about enough in my opinion……)

Let’s also consider the goals, the aspirations, for our personal lives. Are we building this business as a side-hustle, have we stepped away from the 9-5 (more like 8-8 for some)? Are we doing this so we never ever have to work those hours again? Are we fitting our business around family life, or other projects?

We really need to consider how much time and energy we can commit to our business both this week and this quarter. What feels right, what is really possible? Are we willing to put lots of time in now, knowing that our 5 year goal is to outsource the ‘working in our business’, so that we just spend time ‘working on our business’?

This doesn't always mean reduce those 'big hairy audacious goals', but it might mean be more focussed on which tasks are important in your business right now.

Why does this matter and how does it impact our selling ability?

Just think a moment about what would happen if you had another 10 clients today, or 3, or 1?  Can you commit to the time, can you commit to the extra effort that they would need from you, can you commit to the extra organisation that onboarding them will require?

Sometimes those goals we’ve set ourselves aren’t in alignment with what we’re able / willing to put into our business today, and sometimes, when we’re in conversation with a prospective client we’re blocking our energy, and actually transmitting that we can’t really cope with them saying yes.

When we have sales conversations with our clients, we need to really know that we want this person in our lives, in our business, and that we want all of that commitment into our business.

Once we've got this in place it’s so much easier to attract the yes, because it’s in complete alignment with what we want for ourselves and for our businesses.

Are you in alignment with what you want for yourself and your business right now, and if not, how can you remove some of those blocks, perhaps identify some of those timewaster activities?

Bye for now, until next time!
