Heart to Heart Sales The Podcast
Episode 10
An Introduction to the founder of Heart to Heart Sales - Becky Colwell
Hi, and welcome to heart to heart sales, the podcast and it's for heart led business owners who want more sales, who want to learn how to sell in a way that really never, ever, ever feels like selling because it's completely authentic and aligned with everything they want for themselves, their businesses and their client.
And today, I just thought I would introduce myself because that's something I haven't done yet. Well, there's a bit of a reason for that, because I never know whether where, where to not, whether to where to start in my story. And so at this point, I am going to give you a little bit of an overview as to why I do what I do.
That stems from my childhood. And it stems from being, you know, very poor, very lonely, not well looked after and a whole load of other circumstances around that. And what that meant was that I was quite driven in my life to move forwards and to do well in business. I always worked for other people, but I did contract for a long time, um, rather than having a permanent job, but I spent about 15 plus years in sales of various different guises.
A lot of it was business to business. Some of it was business to customer and during all of those roles. And I mean, all of them, cuz I did job hop quite a lot. as a youngster and I. And I feel a bit uncomfortable saying this that's interesting, isn't it not acknowledging our achievements? I was always in the top three salespeople and I was always the person whose phone calls if they were recording them were used for training others because I followed the rules too.
So, uh, yeah, I was great, really, really great at what I did. And I worked for some fabulous companies. And some not so great ones to be fair. I didn't really understand things like values at that point in my life. In fact, I have to say probably 10 years ago, had you said anything to me about values? I wouldn't have got them at all.
So that's anyway, that's a little later in the story, but so, you know, the reality is I got to a point where. Just felt run down with sales. I was only ever as good as my last month and that's all people judged me on. And in some ways that really suited me. And in other ways it really, really didn't because there wasn't much support around anything else that was going on in my life.
My sales director moved to be a director of a.com and he bought me with him to help run the business. So I was out of sales. Woohoo. So I did a number of things and ended up doing business improvement. And the last contract I had, I'd like to share with you. It was with the best company. I think I'd ever worked.
They were so great. So supportive, really great with their staff had great teammates. I was being paid as a contractor, the best daily rate I had ever been paid, and it was close enough to home. It was, it was great. You know, the commute time was very little and it no longer lit me up. And it was in that moment really of understanding myself.
And I need to leap back and say a few years before that I did a huge amount of self work, a huge amount of healing. Oh, just my, my worthiness had a fundamental shift that took me. Wow. It's still taking me places. It's amazing. Really this new me. Um, but five years ago. Wow. What a difference? That's all I can say.
But what it meant was this role no longer lit me up. So I left and I worked with a coach to just help me get my head around if I'm not my job title, if I'm not my income. Cause I was always a high earner. Who am I, who am I? And my coach really helped me work through that and really helped me start to see some different avenues.
And. I joined a community of amazing women, a few guys, but actually mainly women who were looking to their futures and looking to really lean into their gifts and what they could bring to this world and what they could share with this world that would improve lives. That would change lives. You know, even if you're a graphic designer, And you are making documents from people.
You are changing someone's life by giving them time back. And I tell you, a lot of these women were doing much more than that. They were healing. They were, um, drawing out great things. Great joyed, great focus, uh, from everybody. And one thing I observed was that none of them. Felt able to sell what they did.
Nobody felt able to ask for money easily. And what that meant was that their vibrations were off and, and they kept themselves really small. And I was so frustrated thinking. It's not that difficult now. It is difficult. I still find it difficult because it does feel a bit like a personal rejection, but that these women deserve to change as many lives as possible.
That's what led me to start teaching what I know about sales. What it's meant is, you know, I don't consider myself healed enough to help others heal, but what I can do is help in this one small area so that they can go on and change the lives of their clients. And that for me, really. It's such a wonderful feeling to be able to, to share something that I know and see others grow and they grow in front of me.
It's phenomenal. I love it. I absolutely love what I'm doing. And so that's my story. That's how I've ended up getting to where I am and. Yeah, I hope you didn't mind me rambling on this episode. please. If you like what you hear, uh, subscribe, make sure you tick the download button as well. That would be great.
And leave me a review. A five star review really would be the most amazing thing. Uh, it really does help others find me and spreads the word about heart to heart sales, where, you know, you. Sell in a way that's completely authentic. I think completely aligned, completely connected with your clients with a few areas of focus and understanding and wider framework to work within you are made for great things.
So thanks so much for listening. Bye for now.
